How to Celebrate your Fur Baby’s Birthday in Style
Party Season is upon us. But before we get into the festive season of Halloween and Fireworks nigh there are two special birthdays to celebrate.
Our own Frank and Jelly are celebrating their 3rd Birthdays ! Yay!!
So we are throwing them a special little gathering for all their four legged friends and here’s how a
7 Easy Tips to plan you Paw-perfect Party
1-Set the Date and choose a venue: Celebrating our dogs Birthday will come very easy to some of us. However some of our Doggy Detectives had to have a second or sometimes third chances to find there forever home so if you do not know the actually date of your pooches date of birth why not make one up? Next choose the right place; indoors or outdoors?
2-Create and send out Invitations to your Guests: Once the date is set, check your address book and create an invitation. Your non-fury babies might want to take on the task to do a nice homemade one. Here is one of our creations.
3– Birthday Cake so the next thing to organise is the cake. There are two we having been practicing to perfect so that everyone gets a bite.
One for the raw feeder and one that be shared with man’s best friend. After all Birthday parties are family events.
For raw feeder:
1 baking tin, we used a 20×20 as it is easy to cut in slices
500 gr of mince meet. Lamb or beef organic by choice
1(organic/free range) egg
1/2 cup fresh or frozen peas, plus more for decorating
1/4 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup shredded cheese
Large potato (white or sweet)
If you would like to add any wheat grass or spirulina powder to the cake to give it extra nutrition, please do so. Both supplements are suitable for dogs
Boil the potato and mash it up to use later on as the icing. Mix the other ingredients, put them into a tin and bake in the oven on 180 C for 40 minutes. You can also leave the meat uncooked and cool it in the fridge. The choice is yours
Pupcakes suitable for human consumption:
1 cup white or whole wheat flour 1 tsp baking soda
1/4 cup peanut butter/real butter (palm oil free)
1/4 cup vegetable oil/avocado oil
1 cup shredded carrots
1 tsp vanilla
1/3 cup honey
12 paper casings
Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).107107
Mix together flour and baking soda. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. You can swap peanut butter for real butter. Place casings into the muffin tray and scoop mixture equally into the tray compartments. Then into the oven for 20 minutes. Check after 15 and use a wooden cocktail stick to check if done. Let it cool down and ice using our special recipe.
Icing recipe :
225g cream cheese
1 tsp cinnamon
Mix ingredients together use to frost cake.
4-Entertainment. Prepare to play some games like chase the bubbles, using washing up liquid& a little bit of water. An old metal hanger and a wine cork can be used as the handle to blow. How about building your own agility course? That will keep everyone fit and wears all kids out. All you need is a kind of tunnel, jumping pole and weave poles. You can use a table with a tablecloth as a tunnel. If you got an old play tunnel from the non-furry kids still in the attic even better. Use your imagination you will have a great time ?
For the weave poles we use old piping from an old canvas wardrobe. Bamboo stick pushed int
o the grass in regular distances should also do the trick. Use ping pong balls for the top to keep everyone’s eyes safe. Bamboo end pieces are even better. A jumping pole can be created in the same way. We enclosed a picture here to give you more ideas how to create your own course. Have fun!
If you are indoors or need a break but the pups still want to keep going, use one of our recommended snuffle mats. You can hide treats in there. It will occupy the fur babies for a couple of minutes while you are having a well-deserved cup of tea. Plastic bottles with rice or treats are also a great way of having fun and quick to do.
5-most important….. a present.
Although Frank and Jelly are expert Doggy Detectives they expect some tried and tested present for their birthdays. If you’re on a budget take a couple of toys a couple of days before away, wash them and wrap them up as presents.
Ours guys love the West Paw range. These indestructible toys come even with a manufacturers guarantee.
6-Getting ready: Last but not least the birthday fur baby wants to be ready on the special day. Give your pooch a nice bath the day before and don’t forget to put some nose and paw balm on. We all want to look our best, don’t we? Max, one of the guests is looking forward to the Furblaster and the dry shampoo. He like to look equally good as his hosts. Being a Golden Retriever it is hard work to have regular baths. Especially if one likes to roll in mud all the time. The Furblaster is great for double coated furry friends. This will also assure that less hair is flying around on the day of the great event.* More about that in our next blog
7– On the day you need some decoration and provision: Any human decoration will do. Of course home-made is more fun. Be careful with the blowers and poppers, some of your furry guests might not like them.
Provision drinks and snacks. Water and treats. How about some frozen fruit or some dog biscuits. Homemade or bought. We will have some sweet potato homemade chews ready. Just not too much or we have to deal with funny tummies the next day. Please make sure sufficient water is always available. Having fun is a thirsty business. Set the soggy doggy mat in place to stop and damp floor in case of any spills or wet paws. The planning and preparation has been paid off. Everyone is having fun. Just make sure to supervise everyone. While you likely know your friends and their dogs well, disagreements between pooches can and do happen.
So go and Enjoy yourself. Cleaning up afterwards will be a doddle.
Please share this on your Facebook page so we can help our furry friends have a pawdastic yappy birthday.
