Natural or chemical?
Natural or chemical flea and worm treatments seem to be an ongoing debate.
If you’ve been a Frank and Jellys fan for any length of time you will know that we only recommend all natural products. We want what’s best for our dogs and we certainly want what’s best for your dogs!
We decided to do some research because we truly believe that information and knowledge is power. As a dog owner it is always 100% your choice what you feed your dog and how you treat them for fleas and worms. Read through our findings but always know that it’s advisable to do your own research too.
A brief history of chemical and pharmaceutical treatments:
While natural remedies have been around for life times, through all cultures and countries, chemical or pharmaceutical treatments have only been around since the 1930’s. Unfortunately, it is found that these chemical based treatments have heavy insecticides in them which have been known to cause toxic reactions in dogs. Some of these reactions include skin irritations, gut problems and nervous system shutdowns.
Why do people still choose chemical over natural?
We have come a long way since the 1930’s and as an advanced society we have developed so many amazing and effective natural flea and worming treatments. So why do people still choose chemical over natural?
For the most part it’s because people don’t know there are effective natural treatments around. Then there is also the old saying, ‘old habits die hard.’ Not to mention, convenience.
The good news is, we now have access to some high performing natural treatments and remedies that are easy to use! Ask us, we know! We’ve done all the researching and testing you can imagine to make sure you always get the best!
So why go natural?
With any living creature, it is always better to put less chemicals in the body than more. Dogs, like humans, have natural immune systems that do a great job of protecting their bodies from sickness and germ invasions. The best way to support our immunities is to include natural herbs and elements that our bodies recognise.
By going natural flea and worm remedies and treatments, it means that your dog is then able to process these treatments quickly and more efficiently and there is less to no chance of your dog’s immune system rejecting the treatment.
Plus, you’re not pumping your favourite fur baby full of damaging chemicals!
What the vets and pet advocates have to say:
There seems to be a unanimous agreement amongst all vets and pet advocates that a healthy dog with a healthy diet is the best prevention for fleas and worming. The first and best thing you can do as a dog owner is give your dog a strong immunity and a clean as possible system.
Parasites are known to attack and populate the weakest and sickest of dogs. It is continuously found, over and over again, that parasites are found in much smaller (and harmless) amounts in dogs that are super healthy with strong immunities.
How do I change from chemical based treatments to all natural?
If you are wanting to transition to natural flea and worming treatments moving forward, it’s recommended you continue using your current chemical treatment while you transition. This means your dog will stay protected while the natural products build up the necessary resilience and protection in their system. Once your dog is 100% covered by all natural treatments and supplements you can stop using the chemical based treatments safely.
What the Frank and Jelly team recommend:
For natural worming it’s actually a great idea to do a regular faecal egg count (we are currently having a new company being tested by one of our Doggy Detectives). This will show you if your dog has any worming concerns and give you a much clearer idea of what you need in order to treat your pooch for worms.
What’s even better is that if there are no worming concerns, then you don’t need to treat them at all! It means one less thing you have to give you dog AND it means that their diet is on point, yay for you!
Some of the other products we recommend for fleas and worming are the Garlic & Fenugreek powder – natural flea and worm treatment and Immuboost!
Not only is the Garlic and Fenugreek powder a powerful and natural insect repellent with anti-worming properties it’s also a great overall health tonic that has added benefits for maintenance in the digestive system and for looking after the nervous system! And did we mention it’s a great preventative for ticks too?!
And the Immuboost, along with many other health benefits, builds up the immune system to reduce your dog’s risk of getting sick.
